FOMO FOMO FOMO
In today’s episode I’m going to teach you how to best deal with FOMO
FOMO, is the Fear Of Missing Out, is a feeling of anxiety or unease caused by the belief that others might be having more fun and rewarding experiences that you’re not a part of.
It’s a very common feeling in today’s social media-driven world, where we are constantly bombarded with images and updates of other people’s lives and it reminds us that if we are not a part of that group or event or we are not living that kind of life we are missing out.
Here are some tips for dealing with FOMO:
1. Be mindful:
Be aware of the triggers that set off your FOMO. When you feel the urge to check social media or compare yourself to others, take a moment to pause and reflect on your feelings. Limit your social media use: Social media can be a major source of FOMO. Try to limit your time on social media or take a break altogether. Instead, focus on building meaningful relationships with the people in your life. If a certain person or account always triggers you to feel bad, unfollow them. If that person is a family member or someone close you don’t want to unfollow, just mute them so you don’t see their posts.
2. Shift your Focus and focus on the present:
Instead of dwelling on what you might be missing out on, focus on the present moment and the things you are grateful for. Practice mindfulness or meditation to help you stay present and centered. You can practice this by for example if you see a butterfly say out loud “Hey Miss Butterfly, you are looking beautiful today!” That way you are bringing awareness to what’s in front of you instead of away from you.
3. Prioritize your goals:
Set clear goals for yourself and focus on achieving them. When you have a clear sense of purpose, it’s easier to avoid distractions and stay focused on what’s important to you and only you.
4. Cultivate and embrace JOMO
JOMO is a newer concept that means the joy of missing out. It is a form of joy because it involves positive feelings from actually being absent from going to an event or experience rather than the being there. So this is the type of joy we want to cultivate. Enjoy what you’re doing in each moment without worrying about what everyone else is doing. It is your life, you get to choose what you do, where you want to be and who you want to spend your time with. And there is no right or wrong answer. Always remember it is your life!
5. Practice self-care:
Take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally. Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and make time for hobbies and activities that bring you joy. If possible, I encourage you to hit the pause button now and go make a list of joyful activities that you wish to do or have only been wishing that you would get around to sometime or someday, schedule them into your calendar immediately.
So remember, it’s totally normal to feel FOMO from time to time. But by being mindful, staying present, focusing on your goals and well-being, and cultivating more joy of missing out, you can overcome it and live a more fulfilling life.
